About Noord
Noord sits on the northern coast of Aruba, a flat, arid island in the southern Caribbean known for its constant trade winds and Dutch-Caribbean charm. This town, near the famous Palm Beach strip, blends high-rise resorts with local neighborhoods and desert scrubland. Arikok National Park’s rocky hills and cacti lie inland, while the coastline offers turquoise water and powdery sand. Aruba’s geography is starkly different from its lush neighbors—low scrub, aloe fields, and divi-divi trees bent permanently by the wind give it a dry, almost Southwestern feel.
Under the BWh (hot desert) classification, Noord experiences a near-constant tropical heat with very little rainfall—only about 450 mm per year, mostly in brief October-to-January showers. Summers (June–September) are scorching, with highs around 33°C, but the relentless northeast trade winds keep it bearable. Winters are mild and dry, averaging 30°C. Humidity hovers around 75% but feels lower thanks to the breeze. Pack light cottons, a swimsuit, strong sunscreen, a sun hat, and a light jacket for air-conditioned spaces. Rain is so infrequent that an umbrella is almost optional.
The best time to visit weather-wise is December to April, when temperatures are slightly cooler and rainfall minimal. Unlike many Caribbean islands, Aruba lies well south of the hurricane belt, so severe storms are rare—the main weather signature is the constant wind, occasionally strong enough to whip sand. The “happy hour” shower is a brief, warm drizzle that evaporates within minutes. For sun-seekers and windsurfers, trade winds peak from May to August, offering near-perfect conditions year-round.
